#35 - November 2023 Development update
Welcome to the 13th official newsletter from Merit Circle.
Welcome to the official newsletter from Merit Circle.
In our previous newsletter, we launched the Beam mainnet, Edenhorde Eclipse launched in Open Alpha and we shared some new hires. Since then, we launched a wide variety of products all summarized in a keynote presentation. Plus, the MC token migrated to the BEAM token.
Important: the $MC token is migrating to $BEAM – This requires all holders to migrate their tokens on meritcircle.io/migrate – Full article here.
Read on for a summary of what’s been happening and what’s to come…
$MC to $BEAM token migration
The Merit Circle token $MC is migrating to $BEAM as a result of the acceptance of both MIP-28 and MIP-29. This migration has been initiated by the DAO to better align with the current activities and practices within the Merit Circle ecosystem.
Since the full utility of the $MC token is migrating to $BEAM, we recommend everyone to go through the migration process and thereby receive your $BEAM tokens.
Please view this article for everything there is to know about the migration.
Opening the Beam network – The Merit Circle Keynote
It is with great pleasure that we invite everyone from game developers, gamers to other Merit Circle ecosystem contributors to join us on the Beam network. After a brief period in developer preview mode with the mainnet up and running, we’re now opening up the gates to let everyone try out the products and games on the network.
A keynote presentation has accompanied Beam’s launch, where you can learn more about the vision, and the products that make up the Beam network. Below, we’ll zoom in on a few of these products.
Beam Companion App: Designed for gamers on the Beam network. a neat mobile app that lets web3 gamers keep track of their gaming assets and statistics. Download the app: IOS; Android.
Sphere: Beam’s NFT marketplace for gaming assets. Go to sphere.market.
Beam Hub: A place to discover new games and take part in tournaments. Explore the Beam Hub.
BeamOS: All of our products tied together into one unified experience, packaged into a user experience that’s familiar, customizable and truly yours. Check out BeamOS now: os.onbeam.com.
Beam SDK: the invisible layer empowering game developers to build things their way. Beam does not dictate how or when the SDK should be used. Developers can simply pick what they like, and leave out the remaining options. Learn more about the SDK: docs.onbeam.com.
New games building on Beam
We’re thrilled to continuously have a large influx of exciting games joining the Beam network. Following names such as TrialXtreme, Walker World, Castle of Blackwater, Edenhorde and many others we have recently added a variety of new games.
Age of Battles – real-time strategy game
Domi – Immersive Massively Multiplayer Online RPG
Goons of Balatroon – Fast-paced trading card game
Rumble Arcade – PvP squad battler
Inviting all builders: Beam Hackathon
With the release of the permissionless Beam mainnet, we are excited to warmly welcome all developers to start unleashing their creativity onto the Beam network. To incentivize the builders to come to Beam, we are hosting a hackathon with a $100,000 prize pool in collaboration with Impossible Finance.
Beam Faucet
In order to interact with the Beam network, you need BEAM tokens as gas. To ensure everyone is able to move around the network freely, we have created a faucet. Using the Beam faucet anyone can claim a tiny amount (0.3) of $BEAM to kickstart your journey on the network.

A Roadmap to Web3 Gaming Success: Colin Foran and Shrapnel
We sat down with Colin Foran, Chief Creative Officer of forthcoming extraction-based web3 shooter Shrapnel for a discussion about his career, and the highly anticipated game.
“What makes the project really interesting from a game design perspective is that you need to re-interrogate and rethink things we’ve been taking for granted in shooters for decades. You can succeed in Shrapnel without ever taking a shot — and frankly you’ll fail if you play it like a Call of Duty. We think that once you start pulling on that thread, you’ll end up with an experience that plays very differently from other titles on the market.”
